Waiting for help: Christian relief agencies have responded to the floods in Mozambique and Angola by sending emergency supplies. An estimated 280,000 people were affected by the floods at the end of last month.
The Roman Catholic aid agency CAFOD said it was concerned for the many people cut off by the floods. Robert Cruickshank, a humanitarian officer for the charity, said that there was “a lack of clean drinking water, food, medicines, and shelter”.
CAFOD is working with Caritas Mozambique for immediate relief, and Christian Aid has pledged £50,000 to its partners in Mozambique. World Vision said it had distributed 150,000 tonnes of food to the worst-hit area.
The diocese of London is linked to Mozambique and Angola, and the Bishop of Kensington, the Rt Revd Michael Colclough, has written to all congregations in the diocese urging them to support those affected by the floods.
