Illuminated: pages from the Lindisfarne Gospels projected on to Durham Cathedral formed part of Lumière, a four-day light show in the city. Fifty artists were involved, among them Ross Ashton, who worked with the cathedral, in a festival organised by Artichoke, a company that worked on the Fourth Plinth project. The show cost Durham Council £500,000 and attracted an estimated 75,000 people into the city centre during the evenings. Durham hopes to be named the first UK City of Culture in 2013
