Applause for Kattey

11 October 2013

LAMBETH PALACE

THE Archbishop of Canterbury has welcomed the Archbishop of Niger Delta Province in Nigeria, the Most Revd Ignatius Kattey, and his wife to Lambeth Palace.

Archbishop Kattey was freed on last month (News, 20 September), more than a week after he was kidnapped by armed men, near his home in Port Harcourt. Archbishop Welby had published a prayer for his safe return just a day before his release was announced. Mrs Kattey was seized at the same time as her husband, but released hours later.

On their arrival last Friday, members of staff applauded them. Archbishop Kattey said that his release "proved that God answers prayers".
