From the Chief Executive
of the Church Army
Sir, - The whole nation has
felt the impact of the words and actions of Sister Maureen Greaves
CA. A combination of the barbaric violence inflicted on Alan
Greaves, the fact that he was a good man, and the fact it was
Christmas Eve, all shocked the nation.
This made Maureen's words of
grace, hope, and forgiveness even more inspiring and moving. I
spent the final week of the trial with Maureen, and I was deeply
moved by her dignity and integrity.I know that herprayer is that
God will be glorified through the terrible events of last
Christmas.
As I stood with her outside
Sheffield Crown Court, and saw the impact of her words on the press
corps gathered, and as I read my Twitter feed, I see Maureen's
prayer being granted. People ask me where Maureen gets the strength
to forgive, the grace to pray for those who killed her beloved
Alan. I think that walking close to Jesus for 50 years means you
become more like him. Maureen has found strength to forgive out of
her faith.
I was saddened that you
didn't mention (News, 26 July)
that she is a commissioned Church Army evangelist. Her call to
share Christ in word and action has been seen, above all, in recent
weeks.
