IT WAS the Bishop of Oxford, the Rt Revd John
Pritchard, wot won it - although he did have the help of his
chaplain, the Revd Dr Amanda Bloor. He made a "delicious" loaf of
bread that was devoured by the children of Marlborough C of E
School, in Woodstock. They preferred it to the loaf with caraway
seeds made by the Bishop of Buckingham, Dr Alan Wilson - although
that was all eaten, too.
It was a celebratory event before Christian Aid Week, when
Bishop Pritchard and Dr Wilson went to the school to show off their
baking skills, although the diocesan Bishop does seem to have had
an unfair advantage. "I was so determined we were going to win
this," Dr Bloor said. "It was a brilliant day. The children were
really engaged with the presentation from Christian Aid, with the
message that it is a scandal that so many people are having to go
hungry. The bread-making was fun, and the Bishops enjoyed the
element of competition as well as the opportunity to connect with
the children, who asked a range of questions, including "How do you
get to be a bishop?"
