Archbishop Welby: 'Scandal' of trafficking
HUMAN trafficking is "one of the greatest scandals and tragedies
of our age", the Archbishop of Canterbury said last Friday. In a
message to a conference organised by Hope for Justice, in
Leicester, he said: "Virtually every part of this world is touched
in some way by the cruelty and violence associated with this
criminal activity."
Christ in the Centre to close
THE trustees of the charity Christ in the Centre announced on
Tuesday that it would close because attempts to secure its
financial future had been unsuccessful. The charity has staged a
reconstruction of the Passion and resurrection of Christ every year
in Leicester city centre since 2003.
Methodists consult on boycott of
Israel
THE Methodist Church has launched a consultation on the
arguments for and against the BDS movement, which calls on
individuals and organisations to boycott all goods and services
from Israel, to disinvest, and to impose sanctions on Israel. The
consultation, announced on Monday, arose from a request by the
Methodist Conference. It will close on 4 November. A report will be
presented to the 2014 the Conference.

Prince George to be christened later this
month
THE Archbishop of Canterbury will conduct the christening of
Prince George of Cambridge on 23 October at the Chapel Royal, St
James's Palace, Kensington Palace announced on Thursday of last
week. The Archbishop said that he was "looking forward to welcoming
him into the family of the Church".
Visitation in Great Crosby
THE Bishop of Warrington, the Rt Revd Richard Blackburn, has
instigated an episcopal visitation to explore "serious relationship
difficulties" within St Faith's, Great Crosby. The
Priest-in-Charge, the Revd Simon Tibbs, who took up the post this
year, has agreed to step aside temporarily while a six-month
investigation takes place. He will temporarily move house, but will
continue to minister as Priest-in-Charge at St Mary's, Waterloo.
The announcement was made on 15 September by the Archdeacon of
Liverpool, the Ven. Richard Panter. The statement said: "Apart from
acknowledging the existence of serious relationship difficulties,
this process implies no prior judgement regarding the abilities and
calling of Fr Simon Tibbs."
