THERE was nothing like a pack of Brownies to bring some
Christmas cheer to the elderly residents of Swanbank Sheltered
Housing in Fulham, west London. The Curate at All
Saints', Fulham, the Revd Penny Seabrook, together with her fellow
leaders, brought the pack and other member of the congregation to
sing carols with the residents.
The Brownies introduced themselves by singing the Brownie song,
which brought back happy memories of far-off days to the former
Brownies present, and they went on to sing carols, with the
residents joining in. Refreshments followed, and then the young
mingled with the old, stories were swapped, and Brownie badges
admired.
A Brownie leader, Claire Shirley, says that the evening ended
with a hearty rendition of "We wish you a merry Christmas," and the
elderly residents presented the Brownies with a tin of sweets. "The
Brownies felt appreciated," she said, "and the residents clearly
enjoyed the visit."
