Clergy support protest

07 March 2014

ELAINE DANDO/INCLUSIVE CHURCH

FIFTY ministers, including some C of E clergy, have signed up to wear a rainbow-coloured clerical collar during Lent, in response to the House of Bishops' statement on same-sex marriage ( News, 21 February).

The campaign was started by the Revd Elaine Dando (above), a retired priest, who said last month that the statement "discriminate[s] against homosexual clergy".

She suggested that "lay members and supporters could wear a rainbow ribbon round their arm. That way, no one would be forcibly outed, but it would show what a volume of clergy and Christians are supporters."

Inclusive Church is encouraging churches to participate on Sunday 16 March, "which we are designating as 'Rainbow Sunday'".
