An animation about a young Eritrean girl who journeyed across Africa and Europe to the UK to escape violence in her homeland has been shortlisted for the annual Sandford St Martin Awards, in the children’s category. “Ruth’s Story” was created by Fettle Animation for the CBBC programme Newsround, on which it was first broadcast on 8 June. The girl was interviewed by the BBC, but her name was changed and the animation was voiced by an actor to protect her identity. The shortlist was announced by the Bishop of Leeds, the Rt Revd Nick Baines, who chairs the Trust, last week. The winners will be announced at Lambeth Palace on 7 June
