Resignations and retirements

11 February 2022

Episcopal retirement

THE Area Bishop of Kingston, in Southwark diocese, Dr Richard Cheetham, is to retire on 17 October, the 20th anniversary of his consecration. Dr Cheetham was ordained priest in 1988 and served his title in Newcastle diocese. In 1990, he moved to St Albans diocese, where he served as an incumbent and rural dean, before his preferment as Archdeacon of St Albans in 1999.

Dr Cheetham has chaired the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education, and the C of E’s Continuing Ministerial Development Panel. He leads the diocese’s work on both the environment and interfaith relations. He will remain Co-Director of the project Equipping Christian Leadership in an Age of Science, and a member of the new Anglican Communion Science Commission.
