I WAS very grateful to see in the Church Times the obituary of the Very Revd Dr Alan Jones (Gazette, 16 February), who had been Dean of Grace Cathedral, San Francisco. Alan tutored me at Lincoln Theological College in the late 1960s, and was an enormous help to me when studying for a Diploma of Theology at Nottingham University.

Unfortunately, there is a slight error in the obituary. Alan was never a chorister at St Paul’s Cathedral in the early 1950s, as I would have known him well back then as a fellow chorister. He must have been singing as a member of another choir.

Correction. Elizabeth Cosnett (Gazette, 9 February) died on 22 January, not as printed.
