THE Archbishop of Canterbury intends to complete his official duties by Epiphany, it was announced on Wednesday.
A short statement from Lambeth Palace said that Archbishop Welby “intends very little public-facing activity between now and Epiphany, but plans to honour a small number of remaining commitments”.
The statement says that, from Epiphany, the Archbishop’s official functions will be “delegated” to the Archbishop of York, but that “more details will be provided on this in due course.”
The date on which Archbishop Welby formally ceases to hold office — separate from his withdrawal from official duties — “will be set in agreement with the Privy Council”, the statement says.
