FAQs:

I bought an app-only subscription from this website, how do I start using it?

  1. Download the app from the Apple App Store for iPhones/iPads or from the Google Play Store for Android, and open it on your device*

  2. Tap “Start Reading”

  3. Sign in as an existing subscriber using the email address and password you used when purchasing your subscription

What do I get when I subscribe to the app?

If you purchase an app-only subscription (either as an in-app purchase or from the Church Times website) you will get access to all digital editions of the Church Times published from that date onwards, for as long as you remain subscribed. App-only subscriptions do not include access to the Church Times website, the digital archive, or the print edition.

What if I already have a Church Times subscription?

Access to the Church Times app, including past issues, is included with all Print + Digital and Digital-only subscriptions.

  1. Download the app from the Apple App Store for iPhones/iPads or from the Google Play Store for Android, and open it on your device*

  2. Tap “Start Reading”

  3. Sign in as an existing subscriber using the email address and password you use on the Church Times website

If you are a digital subscriber, or unsure whether you have a digital subscription, and do not currently access our website or apps, please contact subs@hymnsam.co.uk for their assistance.

Do I get access to the archive on the Church Times website if I subscribe through the app?

No. Subscribing through the app does not give you to access the Church Times online archive, nor a print subscription. To get full access to the Church Times website and online archive, please purchase a Print + Digital or a Digital subscription.

How do I delete saved issues from the app?

On the Issues screen, tap and hold a cover image to delete that issue. Issues covered by your subscription can always be downloaded again at a later date.

You can also set the app to delete old issues automatically. Tap on the cog icon at the top left of the screen and choose how many issues to store. Back issues will be deleted as you download the new edition each week.

How do I delete downloaded podcast episodes?

Tap and hold the “listen to podcast” button to delete a downloaded Podcast.

How do I restore my subscription if I have deleted the app, bought a new device, or want to use the app on another device that is linked to the same Apple ID?

To restore your subscription, open the app and go to Start Reading. Tap the “restore existing purchase” button and enter your Apple ID. If you want to use the app on another device that is linked to the same Apple account, search for the app in the Apple store and download it on to your second device.

How do I cancel my subscription?

To manage your subscription, please follow these instructions from Apple on how to view, change or cancel a subscription. Please note, if you cancel your subscription before the end of your subscription period, you will not receive a refund. This is Apple policy.

If you purchased your subscription from this website (rather than as an in-app purchase) please contact our subscriptions department: subs@churchtimes.co.uk.

I have purchased a subscription by mistake, how do I get a refund?

If you purchase an app-only subscription by mistake (for example, you already have a current print subscription) you can request a refund from Apple. Go to reportaproblem.apple.com and login with your Apple ID and password. Select the apps tab and click on the “report a problem” button next to the relevant subscription. Use the form to explain why you would like a refund. This is at Apple’s discretion.

When attempting to login in to the app, or download an issue, I see the error ‘Failed to download Church Times issues’ or another issue. How do I solve this?

In February 2025, our new app developers updated the Church Times app and we are experiencing some technical difficulties with the new build across multiple devices. We hope for these to be resolved ASAP, but for now, please try logging out and in again, or removing the app from your device and reinstalling. If the problem persists, please contact subs@churchtimes.co.uk.

We are as frustrated as you are, and thank you for your patience while we resolve these issues.

*Please note, the Church Times app is not compatable with software older than iOS: 15.5 and Android: 6.0 (Marshmallow). An iOS device released before 2015 (other than the iPad Air 2) and any Android device older than the Samsung Galaxy J1 will therefore not run the app properly.
