THE rise in homelessness in Britain - worsened by the current
financial crisis - should force society to reconsider its values,
the Archbishop of York, Dr Sentamu, has said.
Speaking at the launch of an initiative in York to tackle rough-
sleeping in the city, Dr Sentamu compared the UK with countries
such as China and Japan - and said that their populations were
happier because they were more equal.
The York project No Second Night Out will give rough-sleepers
immediate help to ensure that they do not spend a second night on
the streets. It will provide emergency accommodation and
healthcare, as well as reconnecting rough sleepers with their home
local authorities.
